Denis Villeneuve (born October 3, 1967) is a French-Canadian filmmaker known for critically acclaimed films like Prisoners (2013), Sicario (2015), Arrival (2016), and Blade Runner 2049 (2017). He has won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Direction four times for Maelström, Polytechnique, Incendies, and Enemy. Villeneuve received an Academy Award nomination for Best Director for Arrival and was named Director of the Decade by the Hollywood Critics Association in 2019. His film Dune (2021) was a commercial and critical success, earning him Academy Award nominations for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.
