Sir Ridley Scott (born November 30, 1937) is an English filmmaker raised in an Army family, with his father often absent due to military service. After WWII, his family settled in Teesside, inspiring scenes in his film Blade Runner. Scott studied design at West Hartlepool College of Art and earned an M.A. from the Royal College of Art, where he made his first short film Boy and Bicycle, starring his younger brother Tony. He began his career as a set designer and director at the BBC, working on shows like Z-Cars. In 1968, he co-founded Ridley Scott Associates (RSA), a production company where several family members, including his children, became directors. In 1995, he and Tony acquired and renovated Shepperton Studios.
